Idli Sambhar

All the Indian breakfast dishes are popular in the whole world and that is because their excellent mouthwatering taste. Idli Sambhar is one of the hot favorite Indian dish that is mainly the creation from South India. But with the huge popularity of this dish, Idli Sambhar has become favorite among the people of North India as well as among the foreigners. Idli Sambhar is very easy to prepare and the whole process takes very little time. This dish is healthy as well. Apart from all these Idli Sambhar is also a great dish to offered to the guests coming to your house.


The ingredients that are needed to prepare this dish are easily available in all the markets throughout the whole world. Ingredients that are needed to prepare Idli Sambhar are as follows:

  • 2 Cups of rice
  • 1 Cup of Urad Daal (must be white in color)
  • 1 and ½ table spoon of salt to add to the taste of the item
  • 1 Pinch of baking soda
  • Oil for the purpose of greasing


The procedure that is followed to prepare this dish is really very simple. The steps for the recipe of Idli Sambhar are respectively:

  • The Daal has to be picked, washed and kept for one whole night. You can do this the previous night you are going to prepare the dish.
  • Rice, after being washed properly, has to be put in a blender. But before that you also need to coarse the rice properly.
  • You have to grind the Daal in order to make a paste out of it.
  • Mix the Daal along with the rice.
  • Salt is added to the mixture and the whole thing is again kept for 8 hours. This is important for the fermentation.
  • Cook the Idli when the battered mixture is completely fermented.
  • The holder of Idli is greased with ¾ th full.
  • Idlis are cooked for at least 10 minutes.
  • When ready, Idli is served along with Sambhar or chutney.
