Date Chutney

Date Chutney is a popular one among the wide variety of chutneys and known for its exclusive taste. The importance of chutney as a food item lies in its great role in making the other food items more delicious. The chutney when taken with some other food items, adds some extra taste and flavor. The irresistible flavor of the chutney adds to its worldwide demand. Chutneys are prepared from local ingredients which include, vegetables and fruits which are crushed and added with other items to give the special taste.


Ssugar, garlic, tamarind, onion, ginger, salt etc are used to add the flavor to the chutney. The most commonly used spices used in chutneys are coriander, hing (asafoetida), cumin fenugreek etc.

Date chutney can be easily made at home. Here we are providing you with the recipe of Date Chutney.



For making Date chutney you will require the following ingredients:

  • Dates (Khajoor)- 1/2 kilo
  • Fresh Ginger (Adrak), cut into thin long strips-2 teaspoon
  • Vinegar (Sirka)- 1 1/2 cups or 2 cups
  • Blanched Almonds (Badam)- 1/4 cup
  • Raisins (Kishmish)- 6 teaspoons
  • Cloves (Lavang)- 2
  • Salt (Namak) (level)- 4 teaspoons
  • Sugar (Cheeni)- 1 cup
  • Cardamoms (Elaichi Moti)- 2 big
  • Red chili pepper (Lal Mirchi)- 1/4 teaspoon
  • Ground Cinnamon (Dalchini)- 1/4 teaspoon
For making Date Chutney you have to stone the dates first and cut them in halves. After that, the cut dates are put is a pan and ground spices, ginger, chili powder, salt and vinegar are added to it and cooked till the dates become tender. Next, the sugar is added to it and cooked till the mixture becomes thick. Then remove the pan from fire and add almonds and raisins to it. Slit the almonds into halves before adding to the mixture. After this, stir the mixture well and your Date Chutney is ready. Pour it in an air-tight jar and serve after 4 days.
