Masala Dal

Masala Dal is one of the delicious food items of India.

Masala Dal caters to the gastronomic desires of the foodies by virtue of its delicious taste.

About Masala Dal:

Masala Dal is taken with Roti in India. Roti is a form of bread that is prepared from wheat.
Masala Dal is spicy but it has a nutrient value because of the high protein content of red lentil.

Masala Dal is a very popular preparation in India.
Red lentil or masoor is a leguminous plant with seeds that are edible.
The seeds of red lentil are known as masoor.

Ingredients for preparing Masala Dal:

  • 5 Green Chillis
  • 1 Onion
  • Salt
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seed
  • 1/2 cup powdered coconut
  • 1 tablespoon Coriander Leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 cup Red Lentil
  • 2 Tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seed


Procedure of preparing Masala Dal:

The red lentil is kept under water for 30 minutes.
A paste of coconut powder is formed by using water.
Onions are deep fried.
The red lentil is boiled in the pressure cooker with water.
Tumeric powder, green chillies, tomatoes are added to boiled pulse and kept in the pressure cooker for a few minutes.
The coconut paste is added to the aforementioned mixture and kept in the pressure cooker for a few minutes.

Mustard seed is added to warm oil in a frying pan till they make a splashing sound.
Cumin seed is then added to the mustard seed that is fried in oil.
The frying is done for 20 seconds and the cooked pulse is added to it.
Masala Dal is served with coriander leaves and onion.
