Urad Dal

Urad Dal is one of the delicious food items savored by Indians.

The time that is required for boiling and frying also plays a vital role in preparation of Urad Dal.

Ingredients for preparing Urad Dal:

  • 1 cup urad daal
  • 2 cloves
  • 1teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • Salt
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • Coriander leaves
  • 1teaspoon smashed Ginger
  • 1-2 Green chilies
  • 1teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tomato diced
  • Red chili powder
  • Garam -masala(A mixture of cardamom , cinnamon, etc)


Procedures for preparation Urad Dal:

The pulse is kept under water for 15 minutes.

5 cups of water is added to the pulse . The water along with the pulse is boiled. Water is then drained out of the pulse.

Oil is heated in a frying pan. Cloves,cumin seeds and bay-leaves are added to oil and fried till a splashing sound is heard.

Onion, green chili and ginger are added to the aforementioned contents and fried.

Salt, chili-powder and turmeric powder are added and fried further.

A little bit of lemon juice is added to the pulse.
The pulse is then added to the contents of the frying pan.
Garam Masala is added to the mixture and Urad Dal is served with coriander leaves.
