Gujarati Food

Gujarat is culturally rich state of India and is located in the northern-western part of India. Known for its vibrant culture, colorful festival and mouthwatering delicacies. Most of the Gujarati food are vegetarian as the more than half of the population in Gujarat are staunch vegetarians. Being completely vegetarian, Gujarati food is highly nutritious. Their food include spicy food and various types of desserts. Gujarati food comprise daal, chappatis, roti, papad, curd, dhokla, sweets, Khandavi, etc. Here are some of the popular Gujarati food.

    Gujarati Khadi is famous every where and is an integral part part of their food. From spicy food to dessert Gujarati food include all types of traditional food. They are prepared in a very traditional way. Many of their dishes are easy to make. Here is recipe of Gujarati Khandavi.



    Ingredients: ½ cup gram flour (besan), 1 tablespoon oil, one cup of thin butter milk, 3 pinches of turmeric powder and salt to taste. Ingredients required for seasoning- 2 tsp Oil, 2 pinches asafoetida, 1 tsp Sesame seeds, 1 tbsp Coriander finely chopped, 2 green chillies finely chopped, 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds, 1 stalk curry leaves, 1 tbsp Coconut scraped.

    Preparation: Heat oil in a pan. Make a mixture of water, turmeric, salt and flour and pour the mixture of to the heated pan. To avoid lump stir continuously, for 7 to 8 minutes. Then pour the cooked mixture into a plate and spread in thinly with the back of a spoon. When cool cut it into 2 strips and then roll each strip and place ins a serving dish. Then for seasoning spread coriander and coconut all over the roll. Heat the oil in a pan and add curry leaves, Add cumin, asafoetida and chillies. Thgen along with this add sesame seed and pour over the rolls and serve hot.
