South Indian food

South India comprise of four states Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. All these four states are popular for their rich culture, tradition, vibrant festivals and food. South Indian food are popular all over the world and are known for its wonderful combination of spices. Almost all of the South Indian food are rice based most of the dishes are made of rice. South Indian food include both vegetarian and non- vegetarian food. Here are some of the popular South Indian food.

Apart from these dishes there are numerous other dishes also. All the South Indian food are prepared traditionally. Some of the south Indian cuisines are easy to make. As most of the dishes are rice based they are very nutritious. Here is a recipe for one of the famous South India food vegetable Uppuma.



Ingredients: 1 cup Semolina, 1 Onion, ¼ cup Cauliflower florets, 2 chopped Tomato, 2 sliced green chillies, ½ cup Green peas, ¼ teaspoon Mustard seeds, ¼ cup Diced carrot, ¼ teaspoon Chana dal, 2 sprigs Curry leaves, ¼ teaspoon Urad dal, 2 cups Water, 1 tablespoon Oil, Salt to taste, Grated coconut for garnishing.

Preparation: Roast the Semolina in a pan until it is brown. Then parboil carrot, peas and cauliflower. Heat the oil in a pan add mustard seeds, urad daal, curry leaves and chana dal in it. Then fry onion till it becomes transparent and also fry tomatoes until the oil floats over it. After this add the parboiled vegetables along with water and salt. When the water comes to boil add the roasted semolina and stir frequently. Cook for a couple of minutes and then garnish it with grated coconut and serve hot.
